STATION | MELBOURNE

STATION is delighted to present - 0 +, Ronnie van Hout's fourth solo exhibition with the gallery.

Ronnie van Hout is a bold and playful multimedia artist whose aesthetic reflects an ongoing engagement with the uncanny. Having honed a distinctive style referred to as ‘existential absurdism’, van Hout’s sculptural installations, videos and text works evoke constructed worlds that are simultaneously humorous, unsettling and nostalgic.

van Hout will present a new exhibition of site specific video installations and photographs, as a response to the artist's ongoing consideration of mise en abyme in art and cinema. He traces this line of inquiry back to his time at film school, when he began questioning the directive to 'avoid the void.' This rule applied in particular to long pans and the stretch of time between the beginning and end of a shot where cuts were used to shift from subject to subject. From that moment on, van Hout decided to focus on the neglected void, leaving out the subjects altogether.

Please join us for the exhibition opening Saturday 31 January, 4-6pm.
