Conveying the essence and potency of colour in his abstract works, self-taught artist Tomislav Nikolic produces objects, referencing a personalised history of western paintings, sculpture and their presentation.
Utilising a process involving the application of numerous coats of transparent colour washes to his surfaces, Nikolic creates works that contain luminosity and depth. Through the accumulation of these layers, created using a technique combining marble dust with pigments allowing his surfaces to appear simultaneously opaque and translucent, his colour field works have a reflective element that enables the viewer to engage with their radiance.
