Threshold Signs 2008-2021 is a significant representation of the practice of Melbourne-based artist, Jon Cattapan. With a career spanning over forty-five years, the book documents the formative experiences that have shaped Cattapan’s practice, as well as identifying the significance of his work within the arts landscape. Seminal experiences, art historical contexts and technologies that have influenced Cattapan’s practice are detailed in three specially commissioned texts. Professor Peter Hill and Professor Chris McAuliffe each contribute an essay that contextualises his approach to painting, and an interview with Tess Maunder platforms the artist’s perspective on his own work. Featuring more than 150 artworks that have been created over two decades, the text and imagery in Threshold Signs 2008-2021 together convey the layers within Cattapan’s paintings.
