This first publication is the outcome of the Stonehouse / Glasshouse Residency programme, celebrating the work of its first resident, Adam Lee, and his resulting exhibition in 2018, Monolith.
After travelling with his family to Stonehouse in Chenaud, France, for six weeks between July and August 2017, Lee’s subsequent body of work was shown at Gertrude Glasshouse in January 2018. Monolith draws upon Lee’s experience of remoteness within the rural landscape of Southern France; mining aspects of local folklore and religious narratives, the works in the show are interwoven with fragments of the personal and autobiographic. The publication includes an essay by Dr Kent Wilson, Senior Curator at the La Trobe Art Institute.
