Jon Cattapan in 'A decolonial geographic’ at the Devonport Regional Gallery

2 March 2017

Jon Cattapan will be presenting work in A decolonial geographic at the Devonport Regional Gallery in Tasmania this month. Curated by Fernando do Campo this exhibition brings together the work of 11 artists who engage with pictorial, material and philosophical questions that rethink misleading representations of the Australian landscape in A decolonial geographic.

Ideas of the pastoral and natural Australian landscape are commonly depicted as postcard perfect – sublime and transcendent – and emptied of human beings. A decolonial geographic re-calibrates this idealised and romantic view of what landscape signifies and how it should be portrayed.

Opening on 19 March, the exhibition runs until 20 April.
